The Kelsey Trail Health Region is pleased to announce the addition of a new Public Access to Defibrillation Site – Town of Porcupine Plain A new Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has been purchased by the Town of Porcupine Plain and is currently located at the Chase Place Arena. This is a new program for the community, stated Alicia Kwasney-Curle, Administrator, Town of Porcupine Plain. Our plan is to have the AED located in the arena during the winter months and move it to the Larwood-Shaw Memorial Swimming Pool during the summer. Council also plans on purchasing a second AED for the Community Hall in 2008.
On Wednesday March 19, 2008 arena staff and members of the public are invited to attend free AED training at the Chase Place Arena Lounge. Please contact the Town Office at 278-2262 to reserve a spot.
Recognizing that the most important determinant for surviving a sudden cardiac arrest is the presence of a trained rescuer who is ready, willing, able, and equipped to act; this undertaking by the Town of Porcupine Plain is a great program for residents of the community.
The importance of the Public Access Defibrillation Program can be summed up as follows: Teaches people how to recognize cardiac emergencies early and to take action quickly.
- Enables the first person on-scene to quickly administer defibrillation by having an AED nearby. - Provides a fast and smooth transition through each step of the emergency medical care system.
The Town of Porcupine Plain will receive on-going support and training from the Kelsey Trail Health Region to maintain this valuable program. |
